At the end of last week I launched my
giveaway to my Facebook page. Overall I am very happy with the outcome of this.
First of all I did not get as many interactions as I hoped on the first day as
I only got three shares on this. Towards the second day I managed to get 7
shares and 5 likes. I thought that I needed more exposure for my giveaway. As I
have contacts in the fashion blogging industry, I asked my blogging friend “Ana
De Jesus” to share my giveaway post to her friends. In return of this I asked
her to do a collaboration to make a T-shirt and send her a T-shirt. By doing
this it boosted my Facebook post up with more shares, likes and views on the
giveaway. I am glad I thought this as away of getting my business out there.
Now I also have a future opportunity on working with other bloggers to gain
more industry contacts.
Week 9// 19th November 2015
This was the second week into my live
project for my business. After last week’s disaster of screen printing, I
decided to do more thick designs as screen printing is the most professional
way to print onto t-shirts without them fading.
For this I came up with 4 new designs ready
for screen-printing. Once I got the images ready for screen-printing I exposed
them to the light and washed them away. Once I did this I noticed the screen
burned out in places that I didn’t want it to do so it created holes that I did
not want it too. So if I were to print these designs it would leave unwanted
lines and spots so I couldn’t use this screen. With the second screen I exposed
it worked. When I printed onto the t-shirt it worked but once I printed more than
one print onto the t-shirt it started to leave trace marks of other prints so
this ruined the T-shirt. I then printed off this print onto the other t-shirt,
because I pushed the ink through that many times the lines started to bleed
which made it look very scruffy.
After screen-printing not going so well I
decided to use another method to print with. This method was T-shirt transfers.
I found this a very easy way of printing but I can tell that it will crack and
peel after you wash them. I created four t-shirts with this method and I really
liked the outcome of this but it’s not enough good quality for what I want. I
will retry to do screen-printing again but be more patent with it and take my
time when doing them as I feel that I rushed it when I did not need to.
Week 8// 12/11/15
For week 8 I started the creation of my
T-shirts for the live marketing strategy for week 10. As I decide to do a
giveaway on the Friday (20th Nov) I picked to giveaway a T-shirt
rather than an illustration print.
For the first process I drew an
illustration of a female. This was a fine line drawing with thick bold texts.
Once I drew this I needed to get it ready for the screen-printing process. Once
I had got it ready to print I then got my paper to test print with. This part
of the screen-printing went well until I used the T-shirts to print onto. Once
I had printed onto the t-shirt this is where the real problems occurred.
Because the line on my illustrations are that thin they cant push much ink
through when screen printing so once I printed on the t-shirt nothing really
went through it.
After discovering that my illustrations aren’t
thick enough I either needed to create an illustration with a thicker line or
use a different technique to print with. I decided to draw a simple print using
thicker lines. Once I put this through the screen-printing process it turned
out much better and had a professional look. Next week I will develop more
designs this way and print off some more t-shirts ready for my giveaway.
Week 7// 05/11/15
For this week I started to look into
critically evaluating my marketing strategy’s I want to use for weeks 8-10.
This was very useful when deciding on what to use and what will be best to my
business.
After launching my Facebook page of
Depicted Visuals I decided that my name still was not right for my image. I
wanted something even quirky for my brand. So after doing some brainstorming of
my brand name I came up with “Salted Visuals”. I liked this name more as it has
more of a ring to it rather than “depicted Visuals”. From this I then made new
logos and made a new Facebook page for this. I also made a new Instagram account
to show off all of my new work.
Overall I am much happier with this name
rather than the previous ones because it can be shortened as “Salted” if I
wanted to shorten it. I also feel that it has a quirky sense about it which is
what I wanted to create with my brand.
Half term 26th October 2015
In half term I was able to catch up with
what I missed during sessions. I managed to set up all of my Instagram and
Facebook pages. This means I was ready for the week’s 8-10 marketing.
In the mid week of half term I consulted
friends and family on how my name sounded to them. After getting some feedback
I found out that they found the name quite confusing with the roman numerals.
Most people I asked said they just didn’t understand the way it was supposed to
be said as in would it be said as “MMXV” (letters) or as “2015” (numerals).
After a long time deciding whether to
change the name. I decided to change the name but keep it as being different
rather than using my name again. I decided on Depicted Visuals as this had an
edgy sound to it. I am glad I consulted others so that I could get the look and
sound of my business just right. I also found this the hardest part of setting up
a business as it is the main part to my company profile.
Week 6 //22/10/15
This week I decided to look into the branding
of my business. For this I looked into logo design and brand names. I felt that
Jasmine Illustration was very restrictive to just doing illustration rather
than just T-shirt designs and prints.
For this I first picked my name. I found
this decision to be very difficult, as I felt very indecisive about this. I
wanted to have an unusual name and not use my actual name because I sort of
don’t want to be the face of my business. After looking at names of other
businesses I decided to incorporate the use of roman numerals. I first thought
about using my birthday as the numbers for example it would be VIVI but it
doesn’t look very effective so as I have started this business in 2015 I
decided to use this as the numbers so it would be MMXV. As I did not want it to
be just that on its own I added studio at the end of it to give it an extra element
to the name.
